Apache Kafka is an open-source stream-processing software platform which is developed by the Apache Software Foundation and written in Scala and Java. It has higher throughput, reliability, and replication characteristics, due to which it is applicable for things like tracking service calls or tracking IoT sensor data where a traditional MOM might not be considered.
Apache Kafka is based on the commit log, and allows users to subscribe to it and publish the data to any number of systems or real-time applications. Such applications include managing passenger and driver matching at Uber, providing real-time analytics and predictive maintenance for British Gas’ smart home, and performing numerous real-time services across all of LinkedIn.
