Syllabus / What will i learn?

Students can check the MPSC Prelims Syllabus. Moreover, MPSC also provides the topic names in Syllabus. Also, it is a State Level Exam and most of the questions have a focus on Maharashtra. However, along with the right preparation strategy the candidates can prepare for Prelims as well as Mains exams simultaneously.

Paper 1

General Studies:

In general science, questions are generally asked from; Physics, Chemistry, Biology up to 10th standard.

Current Affairs of National/International importance:

The dynamic portion of the syllabus is to be covered through Current Affairs.

For current affairs, candidates must prepare for at least 12 months. In recent times, old current affairs have also being asked by the MPSC. Also, make sure to read about the facts and data related to the state of Maharashtra

History of India and Maharashtra:

General understanding of the subject with broad aspects of the history of Maharashtra.

Read the history of India and Maharashtra and compare how things have changed in the present. You have to read with a critical bend of mind. Try to connect how the the past has shaped the state of Maharashtra today.

Geography of India and Maharashtra: General geography and geographical division of Maharashtra and its major river systems:

Read about the physical, social, and economic geography of the country. Also, read about the main features of the Indian agricultural system and natural resources.

Read particular industries and their location. Subsequently, practice mapping work to point out important sites.

Indian Polity:

Questions will test your knowledge of the country’s political system. You should read about Panchayati Raj, community development, and planning in India and Maharashtra, etc.

General Studies:

Read about the nature and character of the nineteenth-century resurgence, growth of nationalism, and attainment of Independence with special reference to Maharashtra.

Paper 2

Comprehension

Interpersonal Skills including communication skills too.

Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning

Problem Solving and Decision Making

General Mental Ability

Basic numbers and data Interpretation of the 10th level.

Also, Marathi and English language comprehension skills of the 10th or 12th level. However, questions related to these will be tested without providing any translations.

Mains Examination

After cracking the prelims, the student appears for the mains and the syllabus and exam pattern are given below. Secondly, in MPSC mains there are 6 mandatory papers. Paper 1 and 2 are language but the 3, 4, 5, and 6 are general studies paper. However, there are no optional subjects in the mains. Below is the exam pattern of MPSC mains -

Mains Syllabus

Paper 1 - Marathi and English

Section 1 (Marathi) - Firstly, this exam is of 50 marks and has 3 parts. Secondly, there is an essay writing on either of the 2 topics or subjects. The word limit is 400 words. After that, 2 English paragraphs need to be translated into Marathi. Last but not least, this paper comprises of Precis writing.

Section 2 (English) - Further, Section 2 is also of 50 marks and has 3 parts. First is essay writing on either of the 2 topics in 400 words. Second is the translation of the Marathi paragraph into English. And last is Precis writing.

Paper 2 - Marathi and English (Grammar and Comprehension)

Section 1 (Marathi) - Firstly, this is also of 50 marks. Secondly, it comprises of 2 parts Grammar and comprehension. The grammar section includes idioms, phrases, Synonym, Punctuation, and much more.

Section 2 (English) - This also is of 50 marks. Moreover, it also comprises 2 parts including Grammar and comprehension.

Paper 3 - General Studies 1 (History & Geography) (150 marks)

HISTORY - Firstly, the history section includes the History of Modern India specifically Maharashtra. Secondly, it includes the introduction of modern education like the Press, railway, Industries, Land reforms, and much more. Then, it has the establishment of British rule in India, socio-cultural changes, economic and social awakening, growth and emergence of Indian Nationalism, a national movement in the Gandhi era, India after Independence, Specific social reformers of Maharashtra and Cultural Heritage of Maharashtra from ancient to modern.

GEOGRAPHY - This part includes physical geography, Maharashtra's economic geography, Social and human geography of Maharashtra, environmental & population geography, and remote sensing.

GEOGRAPHY AND AGRICULTURE - It includes Agro-ecology, climate, soils, and water management.

Paper 4 - General Studies 2 (Indian Constitution, Politics, and law) (150 Marks)

This paper is also of 150 marks. It includes the Constitution of India, Major amendments to the constitution and amendment procedure, Political system, Administration, and state government.

Moreover, it also has district administration, urban and local government, educational system, parties and pressure group, media, and the electoral process.

On the other hand, read about administrative law, state and central government privileges, pertinent laws, social welfare and legislation, public services, and public expenditure control.

Paper 5 - General Studies 3

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT - This part includes education, Vocational Education, Health, and Rural development.

Paper 6 - General Studies 4

ECONOMY AND PLANNING - This part includes education, Vocational Education, Health and rural development.

HUMAN RIGHTS - Further, it includes the universal declaration of human rights, child & women development, youth & tribal development, development for socially deprived classes, welfare for aged people, and the welfare of labour & disabled persons. Also, People's rehabilitation, Regional & international organizations, consumer protection, values & ethics.
